Black is a strong, dominant color in Poodles, so we see it in many of our litters, often alongside red, cream, brown, abstract, phantom and parti puppies. If you have your heart set on black specifically, tell us when you apply and we’ll let you know which upcoming pairings are likely to produce it.
What to know about a black coat
True black stays black. Some Poodles that are registered as black are actually carrying a fading (graying) gene, and they gradually “clear” to blue or silver over their first year or two. A true black puppy stays black for life. Ask us about the parents of any litter you’re considering: we know our lines and we’ll tell you honestly what we’ve seen from that pairing.
Sun can add a reddish tint. A black Poodle that spends a lot of time outdoors in summer will often develop a slightly rusty or brown cast at the tips of the coat. It’s cosmetic, and it comes right off at the next groom.

Temperament is the same as any Standard Poodle. Color doesn’t change personality. What does change it is breeding for temperament and raising puppies well, which is what we focus on. Our puppies are bred to be smart, steady, affectionate family dogs.
Price, deposits and how to reserve a black puppy

To reserve a puppy, start with our adoption application. Once we’ve talked and it’s a good fit, a deposit holds your place on the list for the litter you choose. Every puppy is temperament tested between 6 and 7 weeks and the results are posted to their page, so you can choose with real information. Families select at around 7 weeks in waitlist order, and color preference is part of that choice. Will my black puppy turn gray or silver?
Only if it carries the fading gene. A true black stays black. We’ll tell you what to expect based on the parents and what we’ve seen in past litters from that pairing.
Are black Standard Poodles hypoallergenic?
Poodles of every color have the same low-shedding, curly coat that many allergy sufferers do well with. No dog is truly 100% hypoallergenic, but Poodles are one of the most allergy-friendly breeds, and color makes no difference.
